 Bakwan jagung or corn fritters are popular street food served in Indonesia. It is very simple to make and delicious that it can be eaten as a main course or a side dish for your meals. This dish can be easily mastered and you'll be able to serve it to your friends and family. Here is a step by step guide on how to make Bakwan Jagung:



Ingredients:


*200 grams of fresh corn kernels or 1 cup frozen corn kernels


*1 large shallot or 2 cloves of garlic (minced)


*2 spring onion (chopped)


*1/2 tablespoon cooking oil


*1/4 cup all-purpose flour


*1 teaspoon baking powder


*1 teaspoon salt


*2 eggs


*2 tablespoons water


*Oil or lard for deep-frying


Directions:


1. If you're using fresh corn, you can boil and peel the corn kernels before chopping them into bite-sized pieces. If using frozen corn, defrost and drain off excess water.


2. Mince the shallot or garlic and finely chop the spring onion.


3. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, minced shallot or garlic, chopped spring onion, eggs, and water. Whisk well until the batter is smooth and consistent.


4. In a large pan, heat up oil or lard until it's hot (about 325°F or 163°C).


5. Dip the corn kernels into the batter and coat them fully.


6. Carefully place the batter-coated corns into the hot oil or lard. Fry until the bakwan are golden brown on all sides and the batter is crusty and crispy.


7. Transfer the bakwan onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Season with salt and/or sugar as desired.


8. Serve the piping hot bakwan jagung with your favorite dipping sauce!
